Yellow Gold

Pure Gold is too soft for everyday wear so it is mixed with other Precious metals to harden it, this mix is called an alloy. Gold alloys are divided into 24 Carats. 24 carat gold is pure gold, 18ct is 75% gold and 9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold, these are mixed with silver, copper and in the case of white gold Palladium and Platinum.

We work extensively in Yellow Golds in all types of jewellery and repairs

White Gold

White Gold is a popular choice for jewellery.

White gold is white but still retains a slight natural yellow hue of gold. Rhodium plating is used to give it a brilliant white shine, this plating does wear off over time especially on rings. Any jeweller can re rhodium plate jewellery. That’s why some White gold rings look more like a dull yellow if worn often. (Rhodium Plating $80 per Ring)

The White Gold we use in our workshop is made in New Zealand to an extremely high standard. Our casting house makes a White Gold Platinum Palladium alloy which almost eliminates the need for rhodium plating, it shows no yellow and is Nickel Free.

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is increasing in popularity, and is especially nice when accented with white gold or Platinum.

Rose Gold is actually has a few different tones, we commonly see “Old Gold” in for resizing which has a blush pink tone, We also see Rose and Red Golds in more modern Jewellery. The tonal difference is an important consideration in repairs or resizing to match in with item.

We would commonly make new items in a Red Gold which has a strong copper colour.
